Claire Rostov teaches courses on religion in America, such as Sacred Flesh: Bodies, Power, and Religion in America, and courses on religion and popular culture, such as Religion and Popular Culture in America and Religion and Sport.
Prof. Rostov’s research focuses on the relationship between religion, media, consumption, and waste in the United States. Her current book project, Enchanting the Home: Rituals of Disposal, examines the enchantments of consumer capitalism and the politics of disposability by focusing on the contemporary decluttering trend that encourages people to rid their homes of excess possessions in order to achieve health, happiness, freedom, and even salvation.
